Tapas (‘Free Food’) Run
Ruta De La Tapa Nerja
Ruta De La Tapa Nerja
This is my favourite part of Nerja! A Tapas Trail, or Tapas run, call it what you like.
Basically the fun is that you walk from bar to bar and take
a small drink (Or larger if you wish, but you still only get one Tapa) and
included in the price, generally around 1.80 Euro, you get a small snack. When I say small I probably mean medium. This
can range from prawns, Russian Salad, even at one place an egg and bacon
sandwich.
A number of people will form a group and ‘bar crawl’ the
local area. Usually about 12 Euros each keeps you busy all evening and a heavy
head in the morning.
A ‘Tapas’ bar is easily identified, usually it is a
traditional Spanish bar with small silver food coolers at the front of the bar.
Once a drink is ordered you will be asked if you require Tapas.
Nerja is split into 2 geographical parts. This page will
deal with 2 Tapas runs, which I suggest are NOT taken on the same evening,
however if you do then details of local Liver hospitals are attached. Most of
the bars speak good English.
These routes are best taken in the evening as a lot of tapas
bars are open from 7PM.
I can here you say, “but there are other Tapas bars about.”
Yes they are plentiful in Nerja, but I have chosen two routes where the bars
are close to each other, user friendly to tourists, and a bit of English is
spoken.
Tip Always
approach the counter for service. Most Tapas bars will only serve at the
counter and very near by. Clearly not at a table which has been set up for
dinner. By approaching the counter you have an idea what is what. If you are
not sure just ask.
Tip Some
key words.
Pollo = Chicken (Pronounced
po yo). Not polla - which in Spain refers to a male part
of the anatomy.
Cerdo = Pork
Cordero = Lamb
Carne = Beef (Also is a generic term for meat).
