Nerja Gyms and Nerja swimming pool.

Nerja Gyms and Nerja swimming pool.

For a small town there are is a high ratio of Gyms per population here.

I intend to focus on 4 gyms. Again there are more but these are the ones I like and, not exactly being a 'beefcake' myself, are 'user friendly.'

A number of people come here for a couple of weeks and just want to spend a few euros on getting fit. The council gym fits the bill.

Piscina Y Pabellon Cubierto gym and swimming pool  (Council Gym).

Piscina Y Pabellon Cubierto, (No, I dont know what it means either!) is the main council gym and swimming pool. It is situated in the East of town, close to Capistrano and Nerja Club Hotel. You turn up and pay about 3 or 4 euros, dependent on pool or gym, and off you go. No membership is required. Take a towel to the gym. The gym is a bit sparse, but there are running machines and all sorts of weird equipment there, I only use the running machine and cross trainer. Get there any weekday morning and you will be alone. The swimming pool is split into lanes and works well. Unusually for around here it opens on Sundays.

Time Sport Gym

Time Sport Gym is situated in  Av Ciudad de Pescia, a 5 minute walk from the bus stops, towards the caves. This caters more for the beefcake in us, does great classes, and is slightly more than the council gym. It closes Sundays.

Tropical Fitness Gym

The other side of Nerja is the Tropical Fitness, Gym, in Calle Antonio Millon. No membership required, a number of tariffs, or about 6 euros a visit. Worth a visit. Closed Sundays.

Absolut Gym

Finally there is Absolut Gym, located almost opposite Lidl on the hill going out of Nerja to junction 292 of the A7 motorway. Lots of kit, various classes, no membership required. Closed Sundays.

  1. The changing rooms are always clean and tidy, the toilets as well. So, if you are a morning person and would like to head to work from the gym, you can have a clean shower at the gym. For swimmers, unfortunately, there is no swimming pool deadlift

  2. Does anybody know of any running/jogging clubs in the area? Every town or even village in England has a running club but in Spain they seem extremely rare. Yet you see hundreds of joggers out and about. I am aware of the Nerja athletics club but that's more serious stuff and very expensive to join for an infrequent visitor
