How to get to Nerja

How to get to and from Nerja. 

Nerja is situated approx. 50 Kms from Malaga.

Flying from UK Malaga airport is the closest and best served air connection. However although Granada airport is just over an hours drive from Nerja, the flights into the airport are not as frequent as Malaga, and as a consequence tend to be more expensive.

Driving by car from UK, Nerja is situated 2,000 Kms from Calais and 900 Kms from Santander. Both are well served with ferry connections. There is the option of travelling by Motorway Toll road or slower travelling.

It is not my intention to deal any further with driving to Nerja, except:

Tip to remember, is that if you travel to Nerja under UK registration plates your car can only stay in Spain for 6 months. The police in Nerja often have roadblocks and will record your vehicle details and do threaten to seize the vehicle after 6 months. Whilst I have heard of the threat I have not heard of any confiscations. Nerja is a small town and foreign vehicles tend to stand out.

Coach and Bus services

There are two main coach/bus operators in Nerja. Frigiliana Bus service, which operates purely from Nerja to Frigiliana.

Nerja to Frigiliana Bus (Although they do change the design of this bus occasionally)

Alsa Buses, who operate Nationwide and provide a good service to and from surrounding areas, including Malaga Airport.

Alsa Bus

There is a main bus stop area in Central Nerja, on Calle Avda Pescia. It serves both the Frigiliana and Alsa buses. There is a ticket office, which looks more like a garden shed, on the Malaga and Frigiliana bound side of the road.

Tip If you are travelling to Frigiliana you have to purchase your ticket on the bus. NOT the ticket office.

Tip There are NO buses on Sunday to or from Frigiliana.
