Maro
Maro, flower balony |
Maro is the small village by the side of the Nerja Caves.
It’s not too far to walk to from Nerja, just remember to
take plenty of water as there is limited shade on the walk.
The Alsa bus runs there, however Spanish Customer service is
not taught throughout Spain, so when getting on the bus it is easier to get off
at the caves and walk the very short distance, rather than enquire if the bus
goes anywhere near Maro.
Lots of local parking, or if stuck pay the 1 euro at the
caves car park.
Maro is very quaint, quiet, and very Spanish. There is a
beach nearby, the statutory large church, a ‘Balcon’ and plenty of little bars
and cafes to keep you amused. There is even a small yoga centre slightly out of
the village.

Maro Church |
The community put on lots of little activities, ‘Maroween’
being a recent one.
On Saturday there is a small market.
There is a beach just outside of the village, but you really
need a car. Obviously it is downhill going there, but a bit of a chore walking
back up.
Maro Beach, Playa de Maro |
I could go on for ages about Maro, but just go and have a
look. As the caves are so close both could be incorporated in the same day.
Maro Balcon |
When driving or walking back try to take the very old road
that uses a vintage bridge. It is directly in line with the Aquaduct. See
photo.
